4th if july history

Independence Day is commonly known as the Fourth of July. On this day, the federal holiday is observed in all over the US. During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776. United States Continental Congress approved a resolution of Independence that had been proposed by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declared the United States independent from the Great Britain.

Congress prepared the Committee of Five people with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author to revised the wording of Declaration and its finally approved on July 4, 1776. A day earlier John Adams had written to his wife Abigail in which he described that Second of July, 1776 will be the most memorable day in the history of America. Adam’s prediction was off by two days, but the official Declaration of Independence was July 4, rather than on July 2. Historians have long disputed in this matter, whether Congress signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. There was the long debate, but it was not cleared yet. But the remarkable coincidence that both Thomas Jefferson and Adams, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later served as Presidents of United States of America and also died on the same day on July 4, 1826, the 50the Anniversary of the Independence.
